‘Early Bird’ Breakfast Club

Gilnow runs a free Breakfast Club daily for all families from 8:20 – 8:50. Although we were an ‘Early Adopter’ school for the Government’s School Breakfast Club programme, we were already committed to providing this option for our families in order to meet the wide-ranging needs of our school community.

The aims of our Breakfast Club are to:

  • provide a nutritious breakfast
  • provide a calm and purposeful start to the school day
  • provide a safe, warm space beyond our normal school hours
  • provide before school care for working parents
  • provide an opportunity for children to engage in reading and develop their love of reading
  • build strong social connections between children in different parts of school

Extra-curricular Clubs

At Gilnow, we provide a range of extra-curricular activities for children to participate in so that they can develop their activity-specific skills, confidence and social skills.

These clubs mainly run after school, but we also offer lunchtime opportunities for children who may not be able to access after school provision. Although activities on offer change each term in response to seasonal weather conditions, upcoming external events and pupil voice preferences and requests, here is an example of our extra-curricular club offer.

We also provide opportunities for children with particular talents and interests to take part in external events, such as sports festivals and competitions, Bolton Dance Festival and Bolton Schools Music Festival, both in and out of school hours. We often target specific children, including those who are vulnerable or are on our SEN register, and cover the costs of transport and equipment to allow as many children as possible to access these events.

After School Club

We are very pleased to be working alongside Devonshire Road Primary School, one of our local cluster partners, to offer after school care for working families who may require it.

Sessions cost £12 each and include a snack and transport from Gilnow to Devonshire Road. Further information is available from the School Office.
