At Gilnow Primary School, we serve a diverse, multi-cultural community and pride ourselves on providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all families.
The vast majority of children in our school speak English as an Additional Language, including about 35% of the school who have arrived in Britain from overseas within the past two years, and we see this as a strength that brings an appreciation of cultural diversity to our school. Whether children are fluent English speakers or in the early stages of learning the language, our team of highly skilled staff are committed to providing effective, targeted teaching and learning, which ensures that all children receive instruction that allows them to develop knowledge and skills efficiently across the curriculum.
Our Teaching and Learning Policy is written with our learners needs as the priority and many of our whole school strategies, which are supportive for EAL learners, are also highly effective for all learners.
We have a well-structured system for induction, which provides a supportive and welcoming start to school life for all of our families and enables us to quickly identify language or pastoral support that may be required.
